TE 803 - Professional Roles & Teaching Practice: Social Studies
Spring 2009 Instructor: Jaime Puccioni This course was completed during the culminating semester of my student teaching internship at Michigan State University. In this course, there was a strong emphasis on executing and integrating a social studies curriculum plan while also learning how to recognize and make accommodations for students with special needs. During this time, I specifically focused my learning on students with Emotional Impairments. While the curriculum I created was centered on the Mexican Revolution based on Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations, there was an integration of language and literacy skills to make the unit plan more meaningful and transferable for the students. TE 804 - Professional Roles & Teaching Practice: Science
Spring 2009 Instructor: Wendy Wahn TE 804 was also completed during the final semester of my student teaching internship. This course focused on the planning and teaching of effective science units. Much of my teaching and planning was centered around action research and open inquiry for both the students and myself as an educator. During this course, I created a student-driven, inquiry-based electricity unit. To support student learning in science, my own inquiry and research was concentrated on how specific student roles can beneficially impact cooperative group work. CEP 810 - Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Fall 2012 Instructor: Melissa White As the very first course I took MAET program, CEP 810 emphasized the use of varied and new technologies for educational instruction. This class helped me set goals for my personal and professional learning and provided an opportunity for me to develop and extend my Personal Learning Network (PLN). Collaboration with class participants and instructors was expected and encouraged. One of the most productive experiences was working with a group to develop a wiki page, and later a presentation, about useful applications that can be used to supplement literacy instruction for middle-grades students. Overall, this course provided opportunities to explore, test, and utilize up-to-date technologies for classroom instruction and personal learning through collaboration. CEP 811 - Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Fall 2012 Instructor: Amy Leigh Pietrowski CEP 811 centered around improving teaching and learning through specifically designed lessons. In order to create and implement more effective lessons accessible to all students, I analyzed example web quests and adapted my own lessons using the Universal Design for Learning and Assistive Technologies. Additionally, this course encouraged the creation of stand-alone resources that would benefit my classroom and professional learning. It was in this course where I first created a blog to be used throughout the remainder of my MAET courses. CEP 812 - Applying Educational Technology to Problems of Practice
Spring 2013 Instructors: Emily Stone and Candace Marcotte CEP 812's main focus was to find innovative ways to use technology in order to address problems in an educational setting. This course allowed me to identify a "Wicked Problem," a challenge that has no clear path to overcoming it, and then implement a specific technology as a possible solution. Much of my coursework focused heavily on research-based practices centered around student blogging. Additionally, I was able to collaborate with other course members to take on the role of "teacher leader." While considering frameworks for technology and what makes teaching and learning powerful in schools, we were able to design and create a professional development seminar following the "flipped" model of instruction. CEP 820 - Teaching K-12 Students Online
Spring 2013 Instructor: Leigh Graves Wolf This course focused on the various ways educators can better meet the needs of their students through the use of technology. Through research, discussion, and exploration, CEP 820 led us to consider ways in which education can be effectively implemented in an online setting. During this class I examined and evaluated many different LMS (learning management systems) platforms and their strengths, weaknesses, and functionality. I eventually chose Haiku to create an online course that organized and implemented Literature Circles for 8th grade students. CEP 800 - Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings
Summer 2013 Instructors: Sean Leahy and Hannah Klautke CEP 800 focused on developing a deep understanding of several major psychological perspectives in regards to technology-based instructional techniques based on what and how students learn and know. In this course, I had numerous opportunities to examine how technology affects what students learn and how teachers adapt their instruction to meet the needs of students. By learning more about well-known psychological theories and practices, I was able to better consider teaching with and through technology. This course connected my learning with personal experiences in and out of an educational setting. CEP 815 - Technology and Leadership
Summer 2013 Instructors: Luke Rapa and Josh Rosenberg In CEP 815 the goal was to develop our thinking and experiences as technology leaders. By examining the aims of education, the history and evolution of technology, and the principles and qualities of leadership, I gained a deeper understanding of the ethical and social implications for technology integration. After analyzing the use of technology through multiple different perspectives, I developed strategies for effective technology integration, project management, and professional development. CEP 822 - Approaches to Educational Research
Summer 2013 Instructors: David Wong and Tatyana Li This course centered around alternative approaches to research in education. A heavy emaphasis was placed on the ability to apply and manipulate descriptive and inferential statistics in order to analyze and critique published studies and findings. By identifying my own researchable problem, I created a final annotated literature review to examine how 21st Century technologies can and will affect student writing. CEP 807 - Proseminar in Educational Technology
Fall 2013 Instructor: Matthew Koehler As this is my final capstone course, I am currently preparing an online portfolio to summarize and showcase my work throughout the MAET program. Through continuous feedback and peer evaluations, I hope this course will provide me with evidence of my competency in using technology to support teaching and learning in a professional manner. |
